Hello! And Welcome!
The first blog is always the hardest. I’ve spent hours brainstorming the perfect topic, to kickstart the blogs with a bang. But often it’s the simplest of things that make the biggest impact. I’m hoping this is one of them. I thought I’d use the first blog to introduce myself, and talk a bit about my background, and my ambitions with Mili’s Corner going forward.
For those of you, who have been part of my journey, you would know that Mili’s Corner used to be my travel blogging site. It was dedicated to all forms of travels, around the globe. Whilst travel is still part of my life, it was time to put a focus on my career and my event ambitions in the front seat. I decided to give Mili’s Corner a makeover and showcase my world of events to you in my corner of the internet. It’s a way of documenting my events journey, as I continue on my path to becoming a promoter. Whether that will or won’t happen is yet to be seen, but there will be a lot of stories to tell.
Round the Bays 2025
If we’ve met before, hello, how’s the family? If you’re new, welcome! Also, how’s the family? I’ve been working in events since 2010. That makes it 16 years this year. Boy, does time fly! I feel I’ve had a very unusual career path in this industry. It began as a thought, I’d like to work concerts someday. I didn’t know how it was going to happen, but just that it felt right. Whilst all my friends began preparing their CVs and Cover Letters for their summer internships at the big 4, I tried to find opportunities to get experience in events. My first couple of volunteering gigs sparked out of a conversation at the gym. Getting to work at an event where Valerie Adams was a VIP guest was the highlight of 2010 for me.
As I grew older, the idea of working concerts evolved. If you’d asked the 20-year-old Mili, she would have said that she’ll be happy to have worked concerts in her career. But as I grew, so did my goal. I first admitted what I truly wanted to do in 2022. I want to be a promoter and put shows on. I’ve had the opportunity to design concepts, and it has been fun. This is slowly taking shape, and currently there are more hurdles than there are opportunities, but life is a journey of learning. I’m sure that one day, this will take shape. I’m driven by the idea of putting events on that have a purpose. You’ll slowly see this unravel as I share more blogs.
Since 2024, I consciously decided to put myself out there, as you do, and go after the experiences that will shape me as an event manager. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work at:
Art in the Park
Hidden Valley (twice as I write this blog)
Groove Armada at Church Road Winery
Purple Disco Machine
HelloFresh activation at the Blues double header games
All Blacks versus Springboks
Touch bass
Our:House Festival
Chaos in the CBD warehouse gig
X Club warehouse gig
Hoops & Life
Hoops & Life
I can’t wait to grow this list and evolve as an event manager. Feel free to head over to my Portfolio of Events page to see more about these events. The list above is excluding other events that I’ve had the honour of putting together.
Being on site at events, is my favourite part of working in this wonderful industry.
I’ll leave it at that for the first blog.
Until next time,
Mili
