Kindness

Kindness is a topic that is quite close to my heart. It will probably be a title in many of my blogs and will be the subject of a lot of my blogs. If there is anything this world needs more of, it’s kindness. I wanted to pay homage to those people who showed me kindness at a time when I was at my lowest. I know that when people talk about their careers, they only want to share the positive affiliations. But the reality is, the good, the bad, and the ugly form your story. You cannot have one without the other.

2025 was a challenging year for me. I bought a house, which was a significant achievement for me. But what I didn’t think it was in my bingo card was being made redundant a week after moving into my first home. Logic went out the door. I thought the worst. The banks would see that there isn’t a regular income and seize my property. As I said, logic went out the window.

I had friends reach out from near and far. All on a quest to get myself employed as soon as possible. I had speakers whom I’d built relationships with through the course of my events, reach out, and introduce me to others. I had people I’d worked with send my details to others they knew without me knowing, to set up meetings and introductions for what was next. I had someone I work with at festivals reach out and give me more gigs where possible. I was overwhelmed with emotion. I had not realised that there were so many people out there who went out of their way to resolve a situation that impacted me.

I believe we live in a unique economy right now. Coupled with living in New Zealand, which geographically is far away from the rest of the world, things can seem hard. I’m not saying that the grass is green on the other side (wherever that might be). I think if COVID has taught us anything, it is to ride the wave.

I am eternally grateful for everyone in my life, and to those who helped me out in a time of need. I can confirm my house was not seized, and I have not missed a single mortgage or bill payment. Whether we’ve worked together, or even communicated, or neither of the above, I want you to know that if there’s anything I can help with, I’m only a message away. Even if it is to catch up for a coffee to sound out ideas.

Until next time,

Mili
